From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.
This warrior group features the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Warrior Group
According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are rare.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the actions of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team knows exactly where to go next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, attacking the character, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and warns that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the party enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The rogue and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This means them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.
What’s Next?
From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.
Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
